2 ~ Lucy Wades through the Lake
Stories of our ancestors between 5¼ and 3½ million years ago.
"Lucy Wades through the Lake",
describes how river apes became specialised in wading through water very
quickly. Following on from "They
Came from the Swamps" where the first River Ape Upe, discovered
fish, we meet some of our ancestors, the most famous of which is, Lucy. Through these characters we discover
how River Apes learned the best way to wade through water is sideways.
After millions of years of evolution their bodies became totally adapted to
doing this as they became the fastest waders ever seen.
We learn how some of them venture further in land and, as Africa begins to dry, start to get about more and more on dry land using a curious new way of getting about on their knuckles. Some of them stay by rivers and lakes and experience a massive flooding of their habitat providing them with a new challenge. Finally we relive Lucy's life, see her horrible death and fast forward to 1974 and her re-discovery and what it meant to our understanding of human history. |
