The River Apes® are a set of
ten children's stories which tell how chimpanzee-like apes were gradually
transformed, through seven million years of natural selection, into human beings.
Based on the controversial, but fascinating Aquatic Ape
Theory they describe how our distant ancestors discovered fish
and then began living in the rivers of East Africa. They attempt to explain
why our ancestors started walking, how they lost their fur and
when they started talking.
Using a fantastic time-machine, the young reader is invited to journey back in time to visit the places described in the stories. What we see there is amazing. The River Apes stories are dramatic tales, full of heroines and heroes, disasters and discoveries and non-stop action from Upe, the first River Ape to Rozalija, our youngest daughter. They are just stories, but they have been written with the aim of describing what might have happened and are, as far as the author can tell, entirely consistent with the fossil and genetic record.
